Summer Moon

Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, once declared that “a hidden connection is stronger than an obvious one.” And, certainly, without the motivation to look beyond what’s right in front of us and explore the unknown, many of history’s life-changing discoveries and breakthroughs would certainly have never been made. However, considering that summer is now in full swing, the obvious link to this month’s “Summer Moon” would suggest that simple and apparent relationships are also valuable and capable of expanding our perspective.

Our culture instinctively associates summertime with a state of relaxation and play, yet so many of us find ourselves unable to take a step back from our responsibilities and genuinely experience the carefree essence of this time of year. It seems as though we place such an emphasis on productivity and abide by the “nothing in life comes easy” motto, that we have trained ourselves to resist life’s simple pleasures and answers. When nature and our surroundings are encouraging us to let go and take a break, why do we insist on complicating things?

And although it’s debatable just how skillful laziness and self-indulgence might feel, there definitely is a time and a place for everything. How can we bring ourselves to become comfortable with the idea that in certain circumstances we can benefit from not overanalyzing and actually conceding control – to truly let loose?

I’m sure for many of you that sounds like a daunting and maybe even unrealistic idea. So let’s explore some of the steps we can take to try and embrace the simple life.
